It is the gradual destruction of materials by chemical and\/or electrochemical reaction with their environment. \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tCarboxylic and heterocyclic rings offer the adsorption of organic inhibitors on metal substrates [2-4]. \u00a0It can serve as a guard for several metals like Iron, Zinc, Aluminum, Silver, Copper etc. and their alloys. VCI is the common term for \u201cVolatile Corrosion Inhibitor,\u201d \u201cVapour Corrosion Inhibitor,\u201d or \u201cVapour Phase Corrosion Inhibitor,\u201d a revolutionary technology that simplifies corrosion protection and is ideal for keeping enclosed void spaces (e.g., packages, equipment internals, or structural metal cavities) rust-free by chemical volatilization at room temperature to form a thin deposition layer on the nearby surfaces. This is an ideal solution for automobiles as the various metal parts (small or big) used in an automobile are sourced from different locations and assembled on a single assembly line. Protection to the automotive components is needed during transit as well as storage before it is taken up for assembling. Performance Testing of VCI<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tThe VCI product performance can be analyzed by industry accepted standards namely German APL TL 8135-002 (German Military Test) [5], ASTM B117 (Salt Spray Test)[6], Razor Blade Test, Humid cyclic Test and Climate Stress Test [7]. At NICHEM, we have developed various grades of VCI Additives which provide MS as well as multi-metal protection and comply to these international standards. One of our customers sent an enquiry for VW 51064 compliant VCI product. VW 50164 is known as one of the most stringent test standards followed by the automobile industry for VCI packaging. Considering the growing demand by our customers, we developed a suitable grade of VCI Additive to comply with VW51064.\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

About VW51064 Test Standard<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tThe VW 51064 Test Standard demonstrates severity and longevity of compliance of the final product in the corrosion prevention of metals. It consists of 3 types of tests \u2013 K (Jar Test), KON (Humid Cycle Test) and KDW (Preserving Jar Test). Each test has its own significance and corrosion environment for evaluation purpose.   • The test is similar but more severe to the German TL Military 8135-002 Standard with few changes in the test setup<\/li>\n \t
  • The conical flask has a rubber bung has a hole on which metal sample mounted at the bottom and a glass tube with frozen water is mounted on the metal sample from the top.<\/li>\n \t
  • The operating conditions remain same as 2 hours at 40 \u00b0C.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
2<\/td>\nKON Test (Humid Cycle Test)<\/td>\n<\/td>\n\n

  • This test is conducted under constant humid conditions for minimum 30 climatic loading cycles.<\/li>\n \t
  • The samples are mounted on acrylic slitted strip with VCI containing film sample with respect to Control. The corrosion rate is evaluated by removing the sample at every 4 loading cycles<\/li>\n \t
  • The results are rated according to RN grade as per the standard.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
