Best Surgeon in the World Award by ASMBS and World Educator Award by IFSO
He has done his MBBS from JJ Hospital, and Masters in Surgery (M.S.) from B.Y.L.Nair Hospital, University of Mumbai. He has been trained for Bariatric Surgery at the University of Ghent Hospital in Belgium, with Dr Raul Rosenthal at the Cleveland Clinic in USA. He is also trained in Advanced Laparoscopic Colorectal Surgery with Prof. Seon Hahn Kim in Seoul, Korea.
In his 20+ years of practice, his work & contributions have been recognised with awards like the “Best Surgeon in the World” Award by The American Society for Metabolic & Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS) in 2019 and “The Master Educator” Award by IFSO (International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity) in 2019 and Lokmat Maharashtrian of the year (medicine) in 2017.
He was the first surgeon to get “Center for Excellence (ICE)” for Bariatric Surgery in India; certified by Surgical Review Corp, USA. He has been a Board member on the prestigious Asian Endo-surgery Task Force and is the only surgeon in India who has demonstrated live surgeries in all the countries of Asia and Middle East. He has authored a crossword bestseller, “The Eat Right Prescription “. He is also an honorary member of the Japanese and Korean Societies of Surgery.
He is the honorary surgeon to the Vice-President of India, Mr. Venkaiah Naidu and has served as the President of the Asia Pacific chapter of IFSO (International Federation of the surgery for Obesity and Metabolic Disorders) from 2017 to 2019.
He conceptualised and headed the NSCI- Dome Covid Hospital from its inception in April till August’20. He is currently an Advisor to BMC for all Jumbo facilities set up for Covid-19.
His academic contributions have been extensive, with almost 20 international papers published in peer reviews journals. He has published a Silver book on “Sleeve Gastrectomy “He serves as Professor Emeritus at the BYL Nair Hospital and as a Professor for the Maharashtra University of Health Sciences teaching Minimal access surgery.
At RHF, Dr Muffazal would be responsible for setting up & strengthening the department of Minimal Access Surgery. With his experience and expertise we see this department growing from strength to strength.
